Dynamics GP Word Forms offers an alternative to the native Dynamics GP Report Writer for creating common forms in Dynamics GP, e.g. purchase orders, sales orders, sales invoices, etc.

Word Forms can be a little tricky to get used to. It relies on the built-in Report Writer to present the data that Word will use. If you need to add fields to your Word form, you need to make sure that the underlying Report Writer report has those fields in it.

The two features I really like about Dynamics GP Word Forms are:

  • You can include complex images in your forms. Word is much better at rendering images than Report Writer.
  • You can have an unlimited number of versions of a form and assign specific forms to one or more customers/vendors.

Though it can be frustrating to learn this new functionality, it is definitely worth it. I don’t know anyone that after somewhat mastering Word Forms says, “I don’t know, I think I’m going to use Report Writer instead.”

Microsoft has recently extended the use of Word to produce additional reports with in GP.
