Dynamics GP includes several reporting tools that are easy to use and hundreds of standard reports.
The standard reports like, accounts receivable aging, general ledger detail, inventory valuation, and fixed assets net value detail, are generated by the Dynamics GP Reporting Report Writer. Any standard report generated by Report Writer can be modified to meet your specific needs. The user interface is straight forward and relatively easy to use.
If you wanted to create a report from scratch, Report Writer probably is not the tool to use. For that I would choose SmartLists, Excel Reports for Dynamics GP, or SQL Reporting Services.
Every standard report has a related dialog box that allows you to specify various selection criteria, sorting orders, and data set inclusions/exclusions. The dialog boxes allow you to make various selections and then save the selection set as a named set. This allows you to run the same report multiple times without having to make all the selections again.
The Report Writer is also the default form generator for sales orders, invoice, purchase orders, payables checks, etc. You can customize these as well, to meet your needs, but it can be a little tricky. If you have a more complex image you want to include on your form, or you want to have numerous version to assign to specific customers or groups of customers, you will want to use the Word template feature.
